Some of our Walks

Woodland on the Harewood Estate

Our walks can be downloaded from viewranger.com. You can view an outline of a walk by clicking the name of the walk, but you will need a free account to download the gpx files.

Cannon Hall

This walk around Cannon Hall begins in the carpark near the Hall or at the garden centre. Both carparks are pay and display. The walk includes parkland, farmland and woodland and is straight forward with no wayfinding problems although the section through Cawthorne Wood can be muddy. Coffee and cake are available in the garden centre cafe.

Merry Dale and Cupwith

This walk starts in Slaithwaite. It is a varied walk with a mix of reservoirs, woodland, moor and canal towpath. It can be boggy in places. The cobbles down to the bridge at Merry Dale can be slippy in wet weather. Coffee and cake (and a beer for Roger) were enjoyed at The Little Bridge Cafe and Wine Bar in Slaithwaite.

The Height from Underbank

This walk starts from a small parking area at Underbank Reservoir off the A616 near Stocksbridge. The outward section of the walk leads up to a trig point at The Height, the route then descends by woods and farmland back to the reservoir.

Hardcastle Crags

This walk starts from Midgehole car park (charge for non NT members). The route is clear but can be muddy. The walk visits two moorland ruins, Nook and Coppy, before descending back into the valley and taking a side path to the crags. After visiting the crags the route returns to the car park via Gibson Mill. We called into the cafe at Gibson Mill for post-walk refreshment, but the sausage rolls we ordered were a disappointment, all three were small and overcooked.

Langsett

This walk starts in the carpark at Langsett Barn and crosses the dam before heading past pasture and then through woodland on to the moors. At the ruin of the farm at North America the route turns left and heads out onto the moorland. The return is through the woodland on Langsett Bank. Coffee and cake were enjoyed at Totties Garden Centre which is on the route home. A much closer alternative is the Bank View Cafe (which you can't miss due to the large spotty exterior) where we have enjoyed coffee, cake and toasted sandwiches on previous occasions.
